Part 01

The wooden base

Wood you love, without the cleanup hassle

Everything great about a wooden board - stability, knife-friendliness, that natural feel - redesigned to fix what isn't.

  • Knife-friendly surface - solid wood absorbs impact
  • Stays put while you prep - substantial weight and grip mean no slipping, no wobble
  • Elevated rubber feet - lift the base off your worktop to protect it from moisture
  • No water damage - the worktop handles the washing-up, the base stays pristine

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

Polypropylene (PP) is the standard material in professional restaurant kitchens because it's non-porous, odour-resistant, lightweight, and dishwasher-safe - making it easy to clean and handle during food prep. It's also the most affordable and readily recyclable (type 5 plastic), accepted in kerbside recycling bins, unlike wood, titanium and glass, which either are not recyclable or usually need to be taken to a dedicated recycling centre.

The honest answer is that no chopping board material is perfect (yet). Wood and bamboo are porous and harbour bacteria; metal can leach into food when preparing acidic ingredients; glass risks shattering and dulls knives quickly. KitchenSavvi's approach is to make worktops a temporary, replaceable surface - designed to be swapped every 4-12 months, then recycled responsibly through our program. Polypropylene is currently the most recyclable and affordable option available. We're continuing to research better materials and will evolve the product as new solutions emerge.

Worktop lifespan depends on how often you cook and what you chop. For frequent cooks (more than 4 days a week), we recommend replacing every 4-6 months; for lighter use, 6-12 months. Hard ingredients like carrots and squash, along with dull knives, wear the surface faster. You'll know it's time to replace when knife marks accumulate and the worktop looks visibly worn. Unlike premium kitchen items saved for special occasions, KitchenSavvi worktops are designed for daily use without a second thought - accessibility and hygiene are the whole point.

The worktops sit into the wooden base using a precision-fit groove system we spent months perfecting. When you place a worktop on top and apply normal chopping pressure, the two pieces lock together and stay stable - no clips, magnets, or tools needed. The worktop will only shift under extreme force. For everyday chopping, slicing, and dicing, the fit holds firm.

The worktops are fully dishwasher safe up to 80°C, which covers most standard household cycles. Higher temperatures can cause the polypropylene to warp, so we recommend avoiding high-heat sanitising settings. The wooden base is not dishwasher safe - wood reacts poorly to prolonged heat and moisture. This is exactly why we designed the set with two materials: you keep the natural feel of wood without losing the convenience of a dishwasher-safe surface. Wipe the wooden base clean with a damp cloth after use.

The complete set measures 34 x 23 x 2.3 cm and weighs 1.5 kg.

Yes - the wooden base works beautifully on its own and is popular with our users for slicing bread, serving cheese boards, and presenting food at the table. The worktops are designed to sit inside the wooden base and aren't recommended for solo use, as they lack the stability and grip needed for safe chopping without the base underneath.
